Course Description Level 3 Diploma in Domestic Energy Assessment (DEA) Since November 4th 2007, all domestic properties put up for either sale or rent within the U.K. Require an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). The EPC provides potential tenants/home-owners with information regarding the energy performance of the building, as well as providing cost-effective recommendations for reducing household energy bills.

EPCs can only be completed by qualified and accredited domestic energy assessors. The assessor is required to survey properties and obtain information relating to the following aspects of the building: construction type, property form, building dimensions and heating/hot water systems. Assessors then enter this info into a recognised software program which will analyse the information and produce a certificate which rates the building’s energy performance. What You Will Study In order to be able to complete EPCs, candidates need to complete a L3 Diploma in Domestic Energy Assessment (DEA L3). The qualification is comprised of a mix of classroom and distance learning elements, and will ensure that trainees have complied with each of the elements of the National Occupation Standards (NOS) for Domestic Energy Assessment. They also assess homes undergoing major refurbishment, extensions or other new building work that requires Building Control approval. Namely, OCDEAs are qualified to:. calculate SAP ratings;.

Day 5: Improving Energy Efficiency, supplementary online CPD material for home study and one to one support from experts via the NES on line assessment centre. Ahead of the course learners receive a comprehensive training manual, a copy of the NHER Plan Assessor software, and a CD full of key supplementary documents. After the first two days of the course, there is a two week gap to allow time for home study and practice, followed by 3 further days of training and initial assessment. During the course, learners carry out 4 practice assessments, one EPC under exam conditions and complete an internal examination. Following the 5 days of training and initial assessment, learners complete 4 EPCs / Building Submissions that are assessed by assessors, and sit an external multiple choice exam set by ABBE, the OCDEA awarding body.

NES also offers an ‘assessment only’ route for those that have the competence and knowledge required to be On Construction DEA and you feel you know SAP 2009 and Part L1A of the Building Regs well enough, to achieve the ABBE level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment qualification.
